Vanessa Rosengart Bishop founded Elder Care Consultants, Inc. in 2001 as an interdisciplinary team that provides care management for the aging and disabled populations in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

Elder Care Consultants operates under this core philosophy: There is no simple answer for what kind of care your loved one needs, nor is there one answer that is right for all. Our role as the client advocate is to help the family and family create the ideal situation that works with their health care needs, budget, and desire for independence.

Vanessa has specialized in Aging Life Care Management Services since 1998. Her areas of practice include care and case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, consultation, education, placement and the assessment of mental and functional capacity. Her knowledge and experience base is constantly updated by active practice and involvement in her areas of concentration and specialties.

Vanessa is an expert in assessing mental and functional capacity in individuals. She is a trained and qualified clinician in assessing cognitive and capacity impairment.

It is often said that when Vanessa takes on a case, it’s taken on with 110% attention.  She leaves no detail undone and goes above and beyond to assist her clients and their family members. She will get the job accomplished with her full attention, passion, compassion and professionalism.  No matter the referral, that person can feel confident and at ease knowing that Vanessa and her team will have their loved one’s best interest in mind and be a valuable advocate.

Her knowledge and experience in the Geriatric field has provided all of her clients with exceptional service.  She not only tends to her own clients, but also manages a team of outstanding Care Managers whom she mentors and empowers to provide the best care possible to their own clients.

She serves as an expert witness in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. She regularly testifies in court and is consulted by attorneys and other professionals. She is often sought out as a speaker for her expertise in care issues in aging life care management and social work network.

Vanessa received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at George Mason University and her master’s in Social Work from The Catholic University of America with a concentration in Individual Adult Mental Health.

She completed internships at The Armed Forces Retirement Home in the District of Columbia and The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center: Behavioral Healthcare Clinic in Bethesda, MD. Before establishing Elder Care Consultants, Vanessa served as social service director for a long-term care/skilled nursing facility in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland.

Vanessa is certified and licensed to independently practice as a Clinical Social Worker in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is certified as an Advanced Social Work Case Manager and Certified Care Manager. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers, National Academy of Certified Care Managers, Aging Life Care Association (formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers), and the Alzheimer’s Association.

When back home visiting family, she volunteers at Memorial Health University Center in Savannah, Georgia. She helps the Outpatient Therapy, Acute Pediatric Therapy and Cardiopulmonary Rehab areas.

In her personal life, Vanessa is enjoying being an empty nester. She loves to run, hike, read, and enjoy what her community has to offer. She and her husband also enjoy traveling, including trips to visit with their daughter.
